A Silver Commemorative Medal From SAMA82

We’re honoured to be working with the South Atlantic Medal Association 82 (SAMA82), a charity set up to provide a platform for Falklands veterans. The charity approached us recently to create a new medal for one of their greatest advocates.

Sukey Cameron MBE has recently retired from her post as the Falkland Island Government Representative in the UK. Throughout her career, she has campaigned tirelessly for Falklands veterans, as well as promoting the Islands themselves. SAMA82 wanted to mark her retirement with a special gift, thanking Sukey for all her hard work. They asked us at Mallards to design and make a bespoke presentation medal, and we were delighted to oblige.

A medal is an appropriate gift from SAMA82. The organisation was founded in 1997, and it takes its name from the medal that was awarded to both serving personnel and civilians after the conflict, 33,000 individuals in total. Mallards crafted a solid silver commemorative South Atlantic Medal for Sukey, on behalf of all those medal holders.

We presented it on a ribbon in a gift box, with a metal plate inscribed with the details. It was given to Sukey at a meeting of the SAMA82 trustees at Falklands House in October 2019. The role of Falkland Island Government Representative has now been handed over to Richard Hyslop.

It’s a privilege to be involved with SAMA82, and the team at Mallards would like to wish both Sukey and her successor all the best for the future.
